I know Chinese with high voices and Chinese with high voices...same thing for my British friends. Think about Star and me - we are both Americans but my voice is deeper!

The deep voice has nothing to do with being a grandfather - it has been this deep since I was 16 years old! I trained as a singer and I was a baritone/bass - I bet Star is a tenor!

Maybe you can add a "fine" that has to be paid when you do not use correct grammar and one of your classmates corrects you? Or, if you have a really nice teacher, maybe he/she would join you when you go out for dinner and help you with your grammar!

Advice is the noun!
Advise is the verb!
They both are BRITISH and being copied by the Americans when they'd taken the British language as their own during the 1800's!

Point taken but I was more referring to the spoken pronunciation that the Brits use for "advice"...it sounds like our pronunciation of "advise" - at least with my British friends in the US!

But if you never speak English because you are afraid of using it incorrectly, you will never learn to speak English! Your spoken English does not have to be perfect for me to understand your meaning! If I speak like a five year old Chinese you may think that an man with grey in his hair should speak Chinese better but you will understand my meaning, yes? Language is about communication, not perfection!

Thank you for your advice, Teacher Tom! It really works to speak English as muuch as we can! I rememner whem we were fresmen. we tried to speak English in our dorm, unfortunately, we failed to do so for it's difficult keeping the ball rolling by four of us. Recently, we get together again, and chatting about the English speaking environment that we had before. And we all agree unanimously that the speaking environment is extreamly crucial to language learning. During the discussion, we keep using English. What surprised me is that our oral English seems much better than years before. Therefore, if freshmen keep training in the first year, I guess they will surely have achieved an awesome progress when they are seniors.

The most common pronunciation issue for my students is the extra "a" sound at the end of words- things like "anda" instead of "and", "parka" instead of "park", "testa" instead of "test". Usually it happens because you open your mouth again after the end of the word. An example, "room" - at the end of this word your lips should be pressed together to make the "mmmmmmm" sound - if you open your mouth while still making a sound you will say "rooma"!
If you are practicing oral English with your friends, listen for this error and try to correct each other!
