The Typhoon That Never Came

Star's picture

Here is our first episode of Star Radio starring a few of my students from Sophomore classes 4 & 5! Thanks to these students for helping me out!

Here is the transcript:

Star: Welcome to Star Radio episode 1 on ChatAboutChina.com. On this
episode we are talking about the big typhoon this weekend. The Typhoon
that never came. In fact, I'm still waiting for it. Will it come today
perhaps? Or even tomorrow?

Now, I had the chance today to talk with some of you about the typhoon
and what you did this weekend.

Paul from class 4 didn't seem to care about the typhoon warnings.

Paul: This weekend, I went out for traveling. Sunday, I went to Jin Tai Shi. The school told us that this typhoon is the biggest typhoon in a thousand years.

Me: A thousand years? That's a long time! Just think, we could have
witnessed history in the making but history passed us by.

JuJu from class 5 heard there was a typhoon coming and what did she do?

JuJu: I went to the nearby mountain with my friends.

Me: When I asked her why she was on a mountain if a typhoon was
approaching here's what she had to say.

JuJu: Typhoon is not coming so we went out!

Me: She knew somehow. Next time the school says a typhoon is coming I will
check with JuJu first to make sure that it's really true.

Polly, also from Class 5, decided to play it safe and stay on campus
this weekend.

Polly: They said that we had better stay in the dormitory and that we shouldn't go out.

Me: When I asked her how she felt when the typhoon never came, here's what
she said,

Polly: I think we must prepare for the typhoon so I don't the school was wrong.

Me: Eve, from class 4, also had a rather unexciting weekend:

Eve: This weekend, we just stayed at school because we were afraid of the storm and you know the message told us there is a big storm but...it didn't come here and we were disappointed.
Me: Disappointed? That's kind of a funny word to use about a typhoon that
doesn't arrive, isn't it?

Me: Then again, Eve went with hundreds of other students to buy food over
the weekend:

Eve: Yes. I also take part in the crowd and we went to the supermarket that night.

Me: When I asked another student what she was going to do with all of that
food... She said she was going to try to sell it to her friends. In
fact, she tried to sell me some this morning.

While We are having some fun with this typhoon, I want to point out
that the typhoon did cause death and destruction in the Phillipines
and Taiwan. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those effected by this
storm

Thanks to Paul, JuJu, Polly, and Eve for appearing in this episode of

Haha, it's quite funny to hear someone talking about the typhoon last year.

While I'm listening to them, it's kind of like my memory flash back to that day, that's cool! :)
