Mad World

Star's picture

I know it doesn't sound nice but I have to say it. People were acting like ANIMALS on Sunday at the Macau/Gongbei border. People were cutting in line which caused yelling and fights to break out. In this picture, a guard is kicking people out of the elderly line. What's the base problem? People here don't care about others. They look out for themselves. Period.

In this picture, a lady is trying to convince a guard that she should be allowed to go through the special 'diplomatic' line. The guard doesn't buy it and sends her straight back to the end of the line. Bravo!

I don't even like to go to Macau these days unless I have a really good reason. It just isn't worth it going through the hassle and stress of crossing the border. Yesterday, I was pushed and shoved (and almost run over) when a new line opened nearby.

this hppens in chin everyday, especially in the public places....sometimes i felt scared when seeing such many people.i can not imagine what will happen in the furture time.will the number reduce by the one-child police or may be not?i dontt want to see this picture anymore,i hope people can be more convericent and earily go anywhere they want.

NICKOLE's picture

I really sorry to hear that.Last time when i went to Macao,I spend more than 1 hour waiting in the line.It was really terrible. But why don't they open more lines for us since there was thousands of people!?I really hate people who cuts in the line and it is sad that it is quite common in China.

Star's picture

Hi Nickole. They did have lots of lines opened but still it wasn't enough. The question I have is why everyone chose that day to go to Macau? It wasn't a holiday. It was just a normal Sunday.

It's a mystery to me.

Yuki yi's picture

On one hand, I think it is a matter of population. There are too many people in China. On the other hand, the quality of people in China should be improved.

Rain Ng's picture

Actually,I think it's normal in China.Especially in such occasions, people are not willing to stand in line as the line is so long and they think it's a waste of time to do that. All they think is to go pass the crossing sooner regardless of the public order.I am sorry to see that because I do want to go to Macau in these days.Good luck to me and I hope that I won't suffer from this terrible mess.

Last time I went to Macau is in Tuesday,Jocelyn and I spent almost two and a half hours to get to Macau.I don't know why it is so crowded even in working day. While we waited in the line, some middleaged women jumped in our queue and separated me from Jocelyn. Then they just pretended nothing happening and still staying there. We were very angry but we didn't want to quarrel with those creature.I knew these kind of things are pretty common in China and most of the time you just can do nothing but tolerate them.

Delia's picture

I think they just want to go Macau as soon as possible and they didn't realize it just made them more slow.

In fact, this condition is a commom phenomenon in China.so I don't to go out in the festival and holiday.

every time i went to macau at the Booder Gate, there were thousands of people,i have adjust to this .Oh, by the way, doesn't it prohibit taking photos at the Border Gate?how did you take these photos?

oh my god~
but maybe i can understand.
Because,I`ll by train back to my family.

This is a common phenomenon for me.I have seen too many this kind of scenes before. The people do not observe the rules always. And they act as if it is not their faults. It is bad that they always try to cut in line, but I have seen something worse than this. Some women try to pretend pregnant and pass the line for the pregnant ones.It is ridiculous.I think this kind of savage people should feel ashame. But of course they are shameless enough to do such things. They always care about the convenience of their own and seldom reflect on themselves. What a pity.

YAN2LEE's picture

Yeah, these phenomenon happen everywhere in China. You know,China has such tremendous population!Once I came to Xiangzhou with my friends,I almost squeeze out of the bus. There were tons of people, beside the waiting line's still waited by a long queue. That made me so angry.More importantly, the bus door broke one of my favorite shoes! It annoyed me very much!I just hope that people in China can be civilized enough to wait for their queue.

This is China!

I went to Macau on Sunday too. It was like crazy, and it took me about an hour and a half to get to Macau. And I was a little bit angry that day. Usually it would be faster to get through the Macau port, but yesterday it took us almost an hour after we got through the Gongbei port. There was tens of thousands of people on weekend, and the Macau Customs only opened about 15 lines, not even a half! They knew there would be SO many people and they should have opened more lines.
I was waiting next to a special line which was the line for senior citizens and disabled people. And some young people waiting in that line because it was a lot shorter, and when they finally approached to the window, the security asked them to go back to the end of other lines.

Star's picture

Ha. I betcha you and I were standing in the same area at the same time! :) Cos' the guard pulled a bunch of people out of the elderly line and sent them into the back.

And yes, I DID notice that...there were lots of lines that weren't open.

I agree with you...even on a Sunday...it's NEVER that bad unless it's a holiday. I never would have expected such a crowd.

Maybe because it's Christmas time? Did you go to the downtown area? They have a bunch of Christmas decorations.

lusy's picture

I don't like going to Macau I think it's terrible! I think there will be more people next week because of the Christmas. Queenie and Aria are going to Macau this weekend and I guess I'll say good luck to them.

Yeah, I went to the downtown area and there are also many Christmas decorations in some big hotels.

Some friends asked me to buy some cosmetics for them in SASA. Women in SASA were CRAZY! Huge crowd of people grabbing those cosmetics from the counter...That was terrible.

bottle's picture

I am sorry to see that because I will go to Macao with my classmates this weekend!!And I really hate people's cutting in line!!I think it's a serious problem in China.I hope this situation will change into better.

gail's picture

I think the phenomenon is quite common in our daily life that more and more people jump the queue and do not keep orderly, often creating chaos. In fact, in our college, these kind of things also happens to me. When I am queueing up in the canteen, whenever there is a person jumping the queue, I will tell him or she directly to queue up. I think it is really shameful to see people behaving so crazy and do not care about others since they act as they are not civilized citizens. Maybe next time whenever there is a new line opened u must protect urself from being pushed or shoved, and in due course, u should strike back. ;)

Star's picture

Hi Gail. Good comment. Especially the part about 'striking back'. I wanted to but I couldn't...and wouldn't...because two wrong don't make a right :).

But I agree with you about this campus. The same thing happens here every day. A few days ago, my wife and son (who was sick) had to wait at the airport shuttle for 1 1/2 hours. The ticket sellers refuse to give my wife and son a ticket but when some teachers came along, they got to cut the line and go first.

Despicable behavior.

I'm glad you can see it cos' I think many Chinese people are so used to it that they don't even notice.

China is a developing country and I think this will get better as time goes on (or I hope it does).

Jane0914's picture

I totally understand that! But aren't there special openings for foreigners? I think there are much fewer people than ours!and much fewer troublesome than we have...

Star's picture

The Chinese also go into the foreigner lines, I noticed. And then when they're told that they are in the foreigner line, they stay there.

But actually, the Chinese line moves much faster than the foreign line. The Chinese line may be a bit longer but generally, it's very easy to get through.

Candies's picture

I don't think it is ok for a foreigner to pass through the gate, because there was a green channel for the foreigners,so they will not wait for a long time. But it is impossible for you to enjoy a relaxing holiday. There are too much people, and it is close to Christmas Day,people will go shopping and there will be a lot of special offers in Macao, expecially for girls. Therefore,if you do not have any emergency, don't go to Macao or HongKong,or you will regret.

JacobLAI's picture

I don't know why some people are too anxious to pass the border. They don't care about others.Sometimes, there is a similar situation at the Luohu-to-HK border. The authority should set fences or lines that can be clearly seen.

Sula's picture

so sorry to see that, but it seems normal.maybe you should get there earlier-about 7:00,so you dind't to wait in line.because i did it last time

Chen Yang's picture

I just want to say that you are not accustommed to the situation. In china, especially in the spring festival,we can always see people doing the same thing in the photo.WHat i want to say is the lack of good qualities.Everyone only think about their own.If they think more about others, they will get more.

MarkLee's picture

I think you should go to dongguan to see about the Spring Transportation. It is in mess. And I hate the people who just care about themselves. That is the reason why HK people hate us in main land China.

Umbrella's picture

Oh My God. What a mess! Just as you say, the people were like animals. No quality, no moral. But anyway, here is China.
By the way, now I know the reason why you were late for the party last night.

Crystal-four class's picture

I really hate this confused situation, and the sound of quarrelling make me unhappy. I think this situation happen in consequence of the lack of eduation knowledge and the management of goverment. As for us,we must play our roles first. It is my third time to write the same words because the information missed when I submit my comment.

Chocolate's picture

It easy for us to come across this kind of situation in China.May be our population is large or some of us cannot accept good education.Anyway,no excuse. The only thing we can do is try our best to learn how to respect others and bulid a harmonious environment.
