Should sex and violence be shown in movies?
We all like a good movie, don't we? Movies help us to relax. Movies help us to see life through someone else's eyes. They help us to laugh sometimes. And often, movies help us to think deeply about an issue that perhaps we never really thought much about before.
Now think about your favorite movies. Are they full of graphic sex and violence? Is it necessary for a good movie to contain these elements?
And if you hear that a movie has lots of sex and/or violence in it, will you be more inclined or less inclined to see it? And do you think that the government should have some say in this issue or should this be completely left up to the movie industry and the people that watch?

Nowadays,more and more moviemakers use those elements such as sex or volience to attract the attention of public,and some of them do work well.I don't know why people like to watch those kind of movies as well as why the movies have to appear those plot,but I know one thing,that is it really do harm to the young people.They are curious for everything they have never know,and they may imitate those behavior.That's horrible!
So,I suggest the sex and volience shoud not shown in the movie.

Yeah,we may say that a movie with sex and violence is not good for poeple to see.Someone may imitate that actions.But i don't it's the reason to forbid these bad frames.If a movie is shown about some real things happened in our daily lives,can this frame be cancel?As a adult,you must have the right attitude to realize this movie because you have the educated thoughts.If you are a child,parents should play a important role to tell your child what can see and what can not.Actually,in China,a moive will be cut down the frames with sex and violence which are really serious before it is shown.

From 14 comments from students, only 2 are against this kind of movie. If this is the ratio from 14 comments, I'm sure it wouldn't change much even should all NEC members give their opinion here. Needless to say that I'm shocked about the Chinese students' lack of concern about society's moral decay (as being portrayed in the movies) and even their approval of this degrading material Hollywood is presenting to everyone that likes watching movies.
Thank heavens there are still students of the likes of Cecilia (although a pity that her friends did not respect and appreciate her view) and Linda. I want to commend you, Linda (000lin), for your strong stance on this sensitive issue. With more students like you, China would have a chance not to descend too quickly to the gutter/sewage-level of the West.
When I was younger, the West had strong moral standards and strong emphasis on family (the building block of a healthy society), but it's sadly changed with the moral decay of mankind and blatantly exploited by Hollywood. Anyone that dare to suggest that the moral standards of the West is not mostly rotten today, does not know what's going on in today's world. And guess what? The West has started pulling China down to it's low moral level of living and China doesn't even realize that. In stead, it appears that China is embracing most of the Western influences - like the immoral rubbish (explicit sex, violence, swearing, blasphemy, etc) Hollywood is freely presenting to China. China's students' attitudes are the proof of this. How sad. :-(

Why does one attend movies? Is it for the sex and violence portrayed? As many have mentioned, both sex and violence are are part of everyday life. This is true. Does the art of movies imitate life? It seems that anyone can listen and view violence on the daily news. Check it out on t.v.,the net or in newspapers. What about the good part of life, the good in people, the positive and uplifting spirit shown by so many. It doesn't make good movies, does it? In many cases we have become so jaded, indifferent and, yes, so immune to sex and violence that we anticipate and even enjoy seeing it in movies. My enjoyment in movies comes from a movie that takes me away, for a short time, from the everyday stress, daily concerns of life and even the negativity of sex and violence that have become so common in the life around us.

as a old boy,I think that violence and sex should be allowed in movies,but it should base on what kind of the movie is.If it is an movie for kids,sex and violence shouldn't be shown.But for an adult movie,sex and violence are quite normal.All adults know that. Most teens get thier sex education in some "films" but not in school.So,schools and parents should pay attention to it.If all the teens did well in sex education,sex and violence in movies wouldn't be a problem in our life.

yes,I agree with TIA,
its not a matter of "SHOULD OR SHOULDNOT",
people will not satisfy with the government if they often command people what they should or what they shouldn't do.
sometimes, we need violence or sex to highlight or emphasize some serious problems.
but, i also think that people at their different age should watch those muvs that are suitable for them.
As for me,it depends.

I don't like movies that include violence because some scences in those movies are too brutal. Moreover, those movies will make people become violent and irritable.
I think it doesn't matter taht sex and violence are shown in movies, but it can't too much. I don't think it is good for children.

Actually, I'm quite interseted in this kind of movie.
Of course, it is not all because of the sexual and violent scenes,but for curiostiy.
I would like to konw what exactly the differences between people's opinions.
Do they appreciate it from asthetice point of view or only beacause of excitement?
All in all, what is imp' is not what you have seen, but for what you see them.

I think it's normal that movie show sex and violence because it do exist in the life.Movie just show what we want to ignore but exist in our life.Some one may think such pictures make them sick.However,it depend on your attitude.If you know these actions are bad actions,you won't do that though you watch these movies.

Sometimes when I see the movie and the sexious or violent pictures on the screen I would turn back my head to neglect them.Though we are adult,I still feel it is not appropriate to see it in the public.What's more,the TV opens for all kinds of people,including children.It is not beneficial for children's physical and mental development.So I think the moive should avoid those picture.

Movie could be regarded as a mirror reflecting the real life.A good moive could be involved in some sexual and violent scenes,but the producers should not just focus and pay much attention on that part,because the glamour of one movie mainly embodies in the depthof spirits.Therefore,Sex and violence can be a kind of art in the movie.

It was a obscure love between a elder woman and a young boy.However,it is not a kind of romantic movie, it actually demonstrates a fact of human nature--between the one you deeply love and her self-esteem &dignity,what would you do? Speak out the fact and free her from the prison,or,protect her poor self-esteem that she can`t read ,she can`t recognize the words...?

It is unnecessary for a good movie to contain graphic sex and violence.But whether it is a good movie,it depends on everyone's taste.I don't require the movie containing such elements but I don't mind to watch it because it gradually becomes normal scene.

Honestly, the Chinese teenages are not allowed to watch movies related to sex and violence in theatres. We understand why the government did this since this kind of movies would have a negative influence on the teenages.
However, as for me, if a movie can make people think deeply about sth, and after having watched it for a few days, the movie still cannot be forgotten, that means it is a good movie itself, so I dont mind whether it contains those elements. What I care is that whether the movie makes sense, or it is meaningful to make people reflect themselves, that is the point.

I think it is not a matter of "should&should not". This is a realistic world, so there must be sex and violence in real life. Movie is the way to reflect the real life. We should make a wide variety of film to transfer our ideas.
It's one's own choice to watch what kind of movies. But the film industry and the government should grasp a "degree" of sex and violence. Emotion is the main thing of those movies, If they control it appropriately, it can attract the audience's interest.
As for the children, they're not mature enough to accept all this movies. So we shouls guide them well.

I think the government shouldn't ban. Because different people have different need. Some people like to watch the movies which are full of sex and violence, but some people don't. I just can say people need different kinds of movies. People can relax when they watch movies, and movie should meet a lot of people's need.
But the most important thing is NEVER show the children the sex and violence movies.
