A student once told me that she thought that traveling was only for foreigners. "Look at you," she said. "You've been all over the world. You must have lots of money". 

I laughed. Not at her but at the idea that I was rich. I have never been rich - not by a long shot! And no one has ever paid for me to go traveling. I have always earned my own exploring money.

President Hu Jintao is smiling! And so is Hillary! That's a good sign, right? After a couple of tense days, it appears that the Chinese-US Strategic and Economic Dialog in Beijing may actually be productive. 

"Whatever changes may take place in the world, and no matter how the domestic situations in our two countries may evolve, China and the US should be firmly committed to advancing a partnership of cooperation," Hu said.

The best way to kill boredom as a university student?

"It's so boring here!" is a common complaint that I hear from my students at my university. I've been hearing students complaining about "nothing to do" since almost the first day I started teaching. Unfortunately, the situation doesn't seemed to have improved much in three years.

Unlike other universities in the area, the place where I teach is way out of the city. It takes almost 90 minutes to reach the downtown area by public bus. There is a small town ten minutes away but there isn't much to see there.

Harbin residents please who own big dogs

I would like to hear from anyone who lives or has friends or relatives in Harbin who own a big dog/s.

I am co founder of a group on facebook and we have already gained access to a lady in Harbin with a large dog who is very worried about the ban. Chinese members helped us by posting on weibo and asking for English speaking Harbinese to do a radio interview and Alice accpeted our request to tell the world what is happening in Harbin.

Recently,I have heard of different kinds of stories from my friends,and their stories really make me feel a little bit  sad.

Suddenly, I thought that what they are suffering is perhaps what would be called the price of growing up?

Maybe --

Growing up means some of your family members are leaving...Your parents are getting older and older...

Growing up means some day you will break up with your boyfriend/girlfriend and get deeply hurt...

Growing up means one day you may come across hardships and misunderstanding with your friends (even those friends who you are always together with).

One Child Policy

Several days ago I  took part in a debate competition and the topic was China's one child policy. In our generation most of us are single child in our family, and compared with those people who have brothers and sisters it seems that we are a little lonely and we lack a beautiful emotion between relatives.

Because we are the only child in the family, so all the people give us whole love , maybe let us enjoy better resources, but it also leads the social problems. In the future we will be under pressure , no one help us to share the responsibility to look after the older generation.

Will you pick it up?

We go to the dining hall for our meals every day, but sometimes I see some students put their dishes in place casually and let the chopsticks fall on the floor silently.

 To my surprise, they never plan to pick it up and go away. This scene shocks me. And I am puzzled. Is he really a college student? It may be common in China. But why do we go to school? We should not only learn knowledge but also qualities. It will not take us many time to pick it up, Just a second.
